Temaki-Zushi / 手巻き寿司

Temaki Sushi ( Actually correct pronunciation is Temaki-Zushi)

When you go to Japanese restaurant, you will order Nigiri or Maki-zushi.

Most of the people imagine that Japanese people cook Nigiri/Maki-zushi in each home.

Actually, the answer is no. We basically do not cook such a sushi in our home.

We normally cook Temaki sushi or Chirashi-zushi. (see Chirashi-zushi blog …link)

 

What is Temaki-zushi?

 

Tamaki-zushi is so to speak, casual style sushi, rolling by hands. Put some rice on Nori (dried sea weed), pick toppings whatever you like and put them on rice.

Topping is really your own choice, Sashimi, fried egg, cucumber, tuna, surimi.. as you like!

 

Temaki sushi is berry good for home party, it is super easy to cook and you can share it with everyone. Since the ingredients are your own choice, small kids also like it.

Temaki-zushi looks absolutely gorgeous(sorry Jamie Oliver), if you do it in your home party, everyone think that you are professional Japanese chef!

Ingredients and Seasonings

Rice x 3 cup

Sushi vinegar

-Rice vinegar x 4 spoon

-Sugar x 4 spoon

-Salt x 1 spoon

Nori cut in square (about 10cmx10cm)

Toppings

Sashimi (Whatever you like)

  -Tuna

  -Salmon

  -Shrimp

  -Octopus

  -Sea buss

  -scallop

  -Ikura (salmon roe)

Fried egg, cut in long and thin.

Cucumber

Tinned tuna with mayonnaise

Surimi

Meatball

Abogado

etc…

Method 

1.Cook steam rice and mix with sushi vinegar thoroughly.

2.Cool it down with wet towel , not to be dry.

3.Cut nori in square.

4.Cut toppings in long and thin.

5.Cook fried egg and cut long and thin.

6.Decorate all toppings on good looking plate.

7.Put rice and toppings on nori and roll it by hands.
